PIRE has a rich history of providing training and technical assistance to enable and enhance the implementation of policies, practices, and programs that can reduce risk factors, enhance protective factors, decrease health problems, and increase the well-being of individuals and entire communities. Our TTA work is based on our seminal research on the impact of environmental strategies, now adopted by the field as best practices. PIRE has operated national TTA centers such as the Underage Drinking Enforcement Training Center for the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. This project provided science-based, practical, and effective training and technical assistance to states, law enforcement agencies, and community groups that were working to reduce underage access to alcohol. Instructional materials, training, and technical assistance on best practices were provided in a variety of formats, including a website, teleconferences, and regional and national conferences. We also provide TTA to many of our state and community clients on issues related to needs assessments, capacity development, strategic planning, selection and implementation of evidence-based strategies, evaluation and monitoring, and sustainability.
