Upcoming Report on Child Endangerment Driving Laws

by Eduardo Romano

Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (MADD) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) are working on a report on child endangerment driving laws (i.e., laws that place tougher sanctions on those who drive while impaired with a child in the vehicle). MADD is developing the report with experts; NHTSA is funding the project.

MADD has convened a panel of experts including Ralph Hingson (National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism [NIAAA]); Rob Turrisi (Penn State); Tara Kelley-Baker (AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety); Eduardo Romano (PIRE); and Kyran Quinlan (Rush University Medical Center). Prosecutors and judges, as well as MADD and NHTSA staff, are also represented in the panel.

The report is scheduled to be made public around June 2018 and will be accompanied by media event.
