Community-Based Programs
Over its history, PIRE has specialized in assisting community-based programs, both with help in program evaluation and with focused technical assistance. Many PIRE staff have career backgrounds working in community-based organizations or with localized agencies and understand well that community action is the front line for public health, safety and education. PIRE has provided a specific evaluation component for over 200 community-based programs, through on-site data collection and analysis or via innovative web-based methodologies. PIRE researchers have also collaborated with community-based programs to validate comprehensive community trials of prevention strategies.
PIRE has established special expertise in designing and executing evaluations for community-based programs and coalitions focused on under-served populations, including minorities and the poor.
PIRE has provided forms of technical assistance and training to over 2,000 community-based programs and agencies. This assistance has included training on the theory of interventions, help with techniques of program operation and assistance with refining strategies to sustain promising programs.
