Public Health Communications

Effective communications are critical to sharing public health knowledge with the public, policy-makers, practitioners, health agencies and advocates. Disseminating research evidence through the media requires particular expertise and careful execution. The PIRE Office of Policy and Communications has the knowledge and skills necessary to work with all types of media, from print to Internet, and can disseminate information through all types of media outlets, including Spanish-language media. PIRE’s media and communications work results in several news stories each month on research findings published or broadcast in outlets ranging from major daily newspapers radio stations to Internet websites and trade newsletters. The office also has designed and implemented media strategies for research interventions and training and technical assistance programs on the prevention of underage drinking, binge drinking, inhalant use, obesity and impaired driving.
