Principal Investigator: Scott McKnightSponsor: NHTSA (9/18/2009 - 12/30/2011) Proposal Abstract The objectives of this research study are to examine Washington's vehicle impoundment law, specifically as it relates to allowing impoundment of a motorcycle for riders who are not properly licensed (i.e., they do not have a motorcycle endorsement). PIRE will 1 Examine implementation issues assiciated with the law, as it relates to the impoundment of motorcycles. 2 Determine whether motoryclists are generally aware of the law. 3 Examine the degree to which the law is being enforced. 4 Determine whether endorsements have increased. 5 Evaluate the effects on motorcyclist crashes and fatalities.
