Principal Investigator: Robert VoasSponsor: San Diego State University Foundation (6/1/2002 - 3/31/2004) Proposal Abstract Pacific Institute for Research and Evaluation (PIRE) will conduct four (two nights each) Designated Driver breath test surveys at the San Ysidro Port of Entry. Specific interventions will be conducted as directed by Dr. James Lange at San Diego State University. The collected data will be cleaned and provided to Dr. James Lange after each survey. Data analysis support will also be provided by PIRE staff members Dr. Mark Johnson and Tim Falb. Additionally the subcontract will include time for Dr. Robert Voas, Co-Principal Investigator, and Eileen Taylor, Project Manager. Task 01 - Ride Along Surveys PIRE will conduct surveys of Safe-Ride Passengers on 18 nights between October 1, 2003 and December 31, 2003. The surveys will be conducted within the Safe-Ride vehicle following procedures approved by the SDSU IRB. Data collected include the results of alcohol breath tests. PIRE will offer each participant a $5.00 incentive. PIRE will also pay any additional taxi fees associated with the survey activities that are above and beyond the fees incurred by the Safe-Ride patron. Data Management and Analysis Data from the surveys will be transmitted to the PI in an electronic format agreed upon by the PI. Additional data analysis services will include descriptive analysis of the data, and nightly survey summary reports.
