Samantha
Walker, Ph.D. Associate
Research Scientist After
receiving her Ph.D. in 1999, Dr. Samantha Walker, a social psychologist, was awarded
an NIAAA post-doctoral fellowship with the Prevention Research Center. Primarily,
her research focus is on sources, pathways and processes of social influence contributing
to adolescent high-risk behavior including sexual activities, and alcohol and
substance use and abuse. Additional research interests concentrate on attitudes,
beliefs and values involved in adolescents' decisions to engage in drinking and
drug use behavior. Currently,
she is an associate research scientist, project coordinator and analyst at the
Prevention Research Center. Dr. Walker has considerable training and experience
in latent variable structural equations modeling and other multivariate techniques
with several publications in the areas of social influence and aggression. Presently,
she is completing two manuscripts: 1) the relationship of drinking locations on
adolescent driving under the influence and riding with drunk drivers and 2) the
effects of family and peer actual behavior and attitudes on adolescents' normative
beliefs, alcohol expectancies, and intentions to drink and current alcohol use.
